In each episode, the two physicians guide us to new location in the world to experience the medicine of another culture— visiting shamans and healers with profound wisdom, hearing from people healed by the medicine, and discussing the latest scientific evidence with academic researchers. The series is designed as a powerful transformational and healing experience for you by intentionally including you in the rituals of the healers we visit.
Healthcare in our country is inaccessible and unaffordable, and our medicine cannot adequately treat many common ailments including depression, chronic pain, addiction, autoimmune disease and certain cancers. People are left to take their health into their own hands and seek new ways of healing. Because of this, alternative medicine has become ubiquitous in our mainstream culture. Nutrition and lifestyle movements, such as veganism, keto, and paleo abound. Consumption of herbs and supplements is at an all time high. Juice bars are everywhere, promising healing effects from their tonics. Yoga is now a mainstay of our society. Crystal healing has become so popular that mining is having untoward effects on the environment. Discussions about ayahuasca ceremonies are almost commonplace. We have a growing interest in healing and spirituality in our culture, and people everywhere are waking up.
Global awakening is spilling over into environmental awareness and action. Greta Thunberg is now a household name and inspiring youth all over the world to take action. People are eating less meat, going organic, recycling, composting, planting gardens, joining co-ops, reducing plastic waste, riding bicycles, taking public transit, switching to hybrid and electric cars, using solar and other sustainable energies, and making purchases from more socially conscious, ethical companies. Searching for Medicine explores traditional healing practices from around the globe, which often consider the health of the environment as an integral part of our personal wellbeing. They recognize the inextricable link between planetary health and human health, and how we treat the earth is ultimately how we treat ourselves. This perspective is vital in the face of global warming and other threats to our planet.
Searching for Medicine has a global focus that will attract viewership from around the world as we explore various cultures and ways of life while demonstrating that we all share a common humanity.
Our global society is changing with women leading the way. We have entered a new female led era marked by communal perspective and action. Sixty percent of physicians are female, which is changing the way we receive care. An essential element of Searching for Medicine is finding a new paradigm of healing, shifting away from the current patriarchal system and incorporating a new perspective, one which embraces the feminine.
In each episode we visit and learn from healers and communities who generously share their sacred wisdom for the benefit of all. It is our intention to transmit this knowledge ethically and with integrity while supporting and giving back to these communities. We are continually assessing our alignment with this mission and are forming a board of cultural advisors.
